After designing and painting the custom tables we were originally going to paint on roadways, but with making the tables modular we wanted to make the roads adjustable for any layout and if they were painted on this would not work!
We were displaying a much smaller version of our original layout at a show and were were presented with a large bag of sets by another exhibitor and inside that bag were two original cardboard baseplates, one for the town centre set (355-1) and one for the harbour set (364-1). It was decided to replicate the roads into a modular form. The original cardboard plates were measured and redrawn into CAD and then modified into 16×16 stud squares (as the blue rail track sections are 16 stud wide). I trial printed a few sections of the road to ensure everything worked as it should, which thankfully they did!
As we have a large harbour area we also created a 16×16 and a larger 32×48 stud water plates.
James knew a local printers (Blaby Print) who said that it wouldnt be a problem. They printed them and even cut them all to size for us. The colour match to my initial designs is completely spot on. If your local to Leicester, then we highly recommend them.
